The Dust Bowl
- Severe drought hit the mid-western and southern plains in 1931
- In 1932, there was 14 dust storms reported
- In 1933, there was 38 dust storms reported
- By 1934, it was estimated that 100 million acres of farmland had lost all or most of the topsoil to the winds
- Winds easily picked up the loose topsoil and swirled it into dense dust clouds, called "black blizzards."
